Forum Theme
The Development of the Global Creative Economy and Cultural Diversity
The key words of this year’s forum are “Creative Economy” and “Cultural Diversity”. These come from the Creative Economy 2010, which is a collaboration of several UN institutions. Creative Economy 2010 will be released at this forum. These two key words represent the comprehensive viewpoint of the UN on the current development tends in the global economy. While the Creative Economy is a global development trend, for many developing countries it is a development option. The Creative Economy illustrates the complicated interactions among the domains of creativity, culture, economics and technology. The Creative Economy has the capacity to provide income generating potential, expand employment and increase export earnings, while also promoting social inclusion, cultural diversity and the development of human society.
Beginning in 2008, the world economy experienced a tsunami; its growth rate dropped from 3.9% in 2007 to negative 2% in 2009; nevertheless, the global exports of creative products and services have grown 14% per year since 2002. This shows that the creative industry has become the most dynamic economic sector in the global economy.
